New Gstyle (Gnome Theme Manager) Version And Ubuntu PPA

gstyle gnome theme manager

Gstyle is a new full Gnome theme manager which can automatically download and install wallpapers, Xsplash, GTK themes, icon themes, full themes, mouse pointers and more from gnome-look, deviantart, customize.org and others, or directly from the software source.

We covered Gstyle already so read our previous post for full details.

There are a lot of changes to Gstyle since we last wrote about it and it also got a new PPA for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic and 10.04 Lucid, so now you can install Gstyle a lot easier.

Here are the latest changes in Gstyle (but there have been some other changes too since we last wrote about it):

  • You can now add/create/edit or save fullpacks themes - and share them, of course.
  • A series of selectors with preview for each elements, gtk/icons/wallpapers - just select your themes then save or export your theme
  • Gstyle now automatically detects and show the preview for your themes when clicking the "new" button to create a fullpack. Same thing when you select a fullpack theme.
  • The wallpaper scan engine has been rewrited a little for a better compatibility with gnome
  • You can now change the Metacity button layout using Gstyle (and it also comes with presets, just like Mwbuttons).
  • Some fixes on the gui and more!

To add the Gstyle Ubuntu PPA repository and install it, simply paste this in a terminal (Ubuntu Karmic and Lucid):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:s-lagui
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gstyle

Once installed, you will find Gstyle Gnome Theme Manager under System > Preferences > Gstyle.

For problems, questions and so on, see Gstyle feedback thread @ ubuntuforums.
